Civic Renewal Movement to Take Back Our Democracy and Refresh the Constitution

Washington, DC (August 5, 2025) – Today, #unifyUSA, a national citizens engagement movement, launched a 13-state strategy to ignite civic renewal movements across the United States to catalyze ideas for a proposed Citizens Constitution – a refreshed guiding document that will give voice to the American people. The initial 13 states/territories being activated for large-scale citizen mobilization include: West (California, Colorado, Nevada); Midwest (Iowa, Michigan, Missouri); South (North Carolina, South Carolina); East (New York, Pennsylvania, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Hampshire) – areas where state mobilizations are underway, or have had success on statewide constitutional reforms or convening of citizens assemblies.
“MAGA Republicans are on active footing to rewrite the Constitution on their terms, which requires both a two-thirds majority in the House and Senate, and ratification by 38 states, and our initial 13-state strategy ensures that the people’s voice will be heard,” said Dr. Paul Zeitz, Co-Founder, #unifyUSA. “In this modern era of political warfare, nothing is more important than advancing a bold, populist uprising to fulfill the promise of American democracy by refreshing the U.S. Constitution – based on what the people demand. We must pursue this courageous path to build a supermajority movement in the fight for justice and democracy against an authoritarian regime.”

Ultimately, #unifyUSA aims to partner with citizens and existing networks in all 50 States and territories, to build grassroots organizing teams that will: mobilize trusted local citizens networks and community leaders; convene consultations, deliberative polling, collective dialogues, virtual citizens assemblies, and Emergency State Citizens’ Assemblies or Consultations to generate local and State ideas on refreshing the U.S. Constitution; and catalyze people-powered ideas for an America 2026 Event: National Citizens Assembly and Civic Renewal Convention in June 2026, or as soon as possible.
Citizens assemblies give voice to the American people — across generations and political affiliations — to co-create a proposed Citizens Constitution rooted in liberty, dignity, and justice for all. Ultimately, our goal is for the proposed Citizens Constitution to then be considered by the public through a popular vote mechanism and the States for ratification.
